Excessive inflammation fibrosis post urethroplasty may lead recurrent urethral stricture. Dexpanthenol (DXP) an alcoholic form pantothenic acid has been used for long time. Therefore, we evaluated the effect intraurethral DXP healing, after in rats. METHODS: 54 male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly allocated into 3 groups (18 each); control, groups. was performed creating 0.8-cm vertical midline incision with microknife, then closing urethra overlying corpus spongiosum using 7-0 PDS. Saline solution 0.9% (500 mg/kg) administered intraurethrally once daily till sacrification groups, respectively. 6 from each group sacrificed postoperative days 4, 8 15. Penectomy penises sent routine histopathological examination, interleukin (IL)-6, transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß1, ß-catenin, vascular endothelial (VEGF) collagen I & III relative gene expression assessment malondialdehyde (MDA) nitric oxide (NO) activity.
